When Ministry Begins with Failure
Have you ever felt that you are too much of a mess up to be used by God?
After all, there are 1000 other people way more qualified to do what you do, right??!!
But what if your shortcomings are the very reason God calls you?
In Exodus 2, there is a lot going on. The Israelites are enslaved in Egypt. Pharaoh has ordered the death of baby boys. And there is no hope in sight for the people.
But then, one day, a baby boy is born, hidden, found by the “enemy”, and saved.
Now, obviously this boy was saved for a greater purpose, right? That he would do something great one day, like lead his people to freedom.
Well, he thought so, too. And in a split-second decision, he chose wrong, faced life-threatening consequences, and fled to the desert, where he hid for 40 years.
If I was writing the story, that’s where it would end – A man who mistook his calling, and died in the sea of sand away from his people.
But I didn’t write that story. God did. And He wrote a way better ending.
The truth is that God is writing your story, too. And He has a purpose in all He does.
Over the next few months, the AKC team will explore the theme of being Anchored in Reality. This first one is meant to remind you of two things.
You are human, and you will make mistakes.
God knows that and He still calls you!
So, as you enter your ministry year, know that God knows all about your shortcomings, and He’s got a pen in His hand to write your next chapter.
