Cathy Dyck has been involved with the Awesome KidMin Conference since the first conference in 2015. She brings a passion for equipping and encouraging ministry leaders, volunteers and parents in the building of strong relationships with the kids and youth they care about. Cathy believes that strong relationships are what gives them opportunity to shape a child’s future and have a positive influence in their life. Cathy has been involved in children and youth ministry as a staff member and as a volunteer at The Meeting Place for over 30 years. She translates her years of wisdom and leadership experience to the every day circumstances and life-changing opportunities that parents, leaders and volunteers have with children and youth. She is a mentor and speaker and currently the Canadian Facilitator for “KidUnique” and “Finding Your Way”. Cathy lives in Winnipeg with her husband Gerry. They have 4 adult children and 3 grandchildren.
Lisa Schau is currently serving at Grant Memorial Church as the Kindergarten Large Group teacher. In 2015, while serving as the Sunday School Leader for a small church in St.Vital, she was invited to join the Awesome Conference Team to help shape the conference for the benefit of small churches. She loves the way being involved in this Conference enables her to see the Church from a province-wide vantage point, hearing stories of how God is working in the lives of people all over the place! She believes that everyone wrestles with similar challenges in ministry and in church relationships, and we all have the infinite resources of our God and Saviour at our disposal, if we only submit ourselves to Him above all else. Lisa is married to Jeffery and they have one teen and one tween.
Rachel Buhler is the Elementary School Director at The Meeting Place. After completing her degree in Education from the University of Winnipeg in 2015, she jumped straight into Youth Ministry at The Meeting Place where she served for 2 years before moving into her current role in Kidmin. Rachel believes in building a team of unique individuals who will serve together to lead kids to discover who Jesus is and develop a strong friendship with him. She loves having coffee chats with the volunteers on her team. Rachel’s husband of two years, Justin, also works in ministry at North Kildonan MB Church and the two love any chance they get to do ministry together. Rachel loves watching movies, especially Star Wars, and playing board games with friends.
Carmen Fischer is the Children and Youth Pastor at Winnipeg Chinese Alliance Church. She’s been involved with children and youth ministries since she was young and has a heart to see children and youth experience Christ and grow in their faith: whether that means serving at her own church or helping others be equipped for their own church contexts. She believes it doesn’t matter where we are in life or what position we serve in, we all have a role in serving God’s kids. She loves to see how the children she’s worked with have grown in their faith as they approach adulthood and how their heart for ministry grows as they get older. Carmen has been a part of this team since the first conference in 2016 and continues to enjoy seeing how God is working in His churches through the conference.
Our message to other KidMin workers:
You are not alone! We are all part of the body of Christ working together towards the same goal: to lead God’s children into a committed relationship with Jesus. We believe that God has great plans for you as you faithfully serve Him and attend to the needs you see around you.
We know that just being in the same space with other like-minded people who are in the trenches of ministry is going to be so encouraging for you. You will get to worship, pray, learn and grow with people who are in the same boat as you. You will hear inspiring words from a great speaker and get to take home incredible tid-bits of information from session speakers that you will be able to implement in your ministry right away.
We have to say it: This conference is pretty awesome.
